…like smoke in sunbeams or the rippling networks of sunlight in shallow water
...transforming endlessly into itself,
the pattern alone remains.
~Alan Watts (Joyous Cosmology)
Pattern recognition looks for unity in diversity…“for the presence of cosmos in seeming chaos."
When we're young, the first things we learn to recognize are shapes and patterns. These shapes are the building blocks for our consciousness. We arrange ideas, language, identity, and reality itself upon patterns we learn as children.
Thus, we are naturally drawn to perceive and express patterns in our lives. Pattern recognition is an essential mode of our consciousness… from the way that we think, to social and cultural trends, to the synchronicities that guide us along the way.
We can observe similar patterns of movement, behavior and organization in both the natural world and in the energetic architecture of Creation. Conscious pattern recognition enables one to perceive the common threads/subtle structure of the intelligent universe…offering a clear window into Oneness as well as the individual self.
“'Stuff' is a word for the world as it looks when our eyes are out of focus. Fuzzy. Stuff--the idea of stuff is that it is undifferentiated, like some kind of goo. And when your eyes are not in sharp focus, everything looks fuzzy. When you get your eyes into focus, you see a form, you see a pattern.” ~Alan Watts (The Nature of Consciousness)
